Last week’s voter turnout – over 3,500 — was nothing short of amazing and inspiring.
It’s rare for most voters to pay attention to primary elections, but this one was decidedly different.
For one, it featured several local candidates vying for the open state representative and state senate seats.
But we witnessed something else happening Tuesday besides a heightened interest in local candidates.
Voters we talked to were fired up – mostly about the direction our state and federal governments have taken. Hamtramck voters want change, and according to the latest polling data, it looks like that is going to happen come the November General Election.
The important takeaway, however, is that more people are taking elections seriously. Elections, many have come to realize, have consequences, and truly every vote counts.
Judging by what happened last week, the November General Election is going to be huge – you can just feel it.
So, get informed people, and remember the power of the ballot is a mighty thing.
And to the local candidates, you did an admirable job in campaigning, and for some, you came awfully close to winning. We hope candidates here build on this and make another try.
